The first thing I do with any new student is identify his or her learning style so that I may incorporate those specific strategies into my lesson for an effective and personalized learning experience. My lessons are very interactive, and a main aspect is to nurture critical thinking. After setting up a situation, I will pose problems for the student to solve. Critical thinking is necessary in order to navigate foreign grammar and truly understand the material. I began to realize my love and aptitude for tutoring as a volunteer Japanese instructor for the Daikin home-stay program in 2006. Being that I have spent the majority of my teaching career in a high needs environment, I can honestly say that I teach to the student. However a child best learns is the way in which I teach a subject. No child learns exactly the same, and as a highly qualified educator, it's my responsibility to discover the mode in which a student best learns.
