Interpreter for the Deaf

I have been employed as a Teacher of the Deaf in Cy-Fair since 2007. I have taught at the elementary as well as secondary levels. Before I became a teacher, I was an interpreter at the Deaf Action Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. I worked as a community interpreter and also interpreted college-level classes at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

During my college experience it became apparent to me that I loved how the brain worked, which led to my love for teaching, especially the at-risk population. I began working with the autistic population at a private clinic in November of 2004 while going to school full time at the University of Houston. I then decided to become a teacher, where I went to ACT Houston, to obtain my alternative certification to become a special education teacher. I truly enjoy teaching children. Each child is different and learn in different ways, so I use the teaching types to make sure each child is learning the best way they can. I believe children learn the most through hands-on activities and through play. That way the student can discover many ways to learn and understand fundamentals of their teachings.
While going to college for my education degree, I taught preschool for 5 and 1/2 years before my semester of student teaching in Kindergarten before graduation. A few months after receiving my BA and Teaching Certificate, I began teaching preschool again and have substituted middle school some as well. I have also held a Child Development Associate while teaching preschool.
