As an Ivy league graduate, I was driven to acheive a high level of excellence in education. I have earned a bachelor degree in education and masters degree in education with a major in mathematics. I have also worked in the business field and am able to teach students today how to apply mathematics in the real world. Recently I have been teaching as a substitute teacher in 3 counties and I have been doing alot of tutoring as well.
I am certified to teach secondary mathematics and social studies by the state of OHIO. I also enjoy teaching college students and tutoring on a weekly basis. My approach to "teaching" is very personal; education is not a "one size fits all" project but comes from many sources--books, talking, hands on experience and much more. If someone wants to learn, I believe they can and dance with them when they find their "Eureka" moments. I believe in praising all efforts while gently correcting errors.
Broad experience in accounting from small business (where I wore all hats including HR to TB reconciliation) to finding my place in a huge corporation; have trained my replacements (even those who had no prior knowledge of debits and credits or what a BS or IS means) which I have always done successfully. I have technically never "taught" but have trained many.

I believe that comparing complex concepts to everyday, personal objects and situations is the most effective way to learn. Therefore, I am big on metaphors. Algebraic concepts and formulas can often be, I have found, analogous to much simpler ideas or images. Once the abstract is related to the mundane, we can break down the barrier to understanding that can be an automatic or habitual construction for many people. I am also an advocate of learning by example; I will walk through a problem or two, step by step, until the process becomes obvious. A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutoring experience in mathematics at the secondary and high school levels. One example of tutoring at the secondary level was when I tutored an eighth grade student in pre-algebra to improve his math skills to prepare him for high school algebra. The result of this particular tutoring was that the student began to understand and enjoy math, which was one of my goals. His grades subsequently rose from the "C" level to an "A" level. I have also had the privilege of tutoring high school and college age students in math, accounting, economics and finance and have enjoyed watching them succeed and move to a higher level.
