My teaching experience began in high school, when I would review and edit my classmates essays. On several occasions, I also went through essays line by line. In addition, I taught swim lessons to preschool aged children, and helped coach crew to high school aged students. Throughout college, I continued to aid my peers with their essays, and often participated in workshops outside of class. As a writer, I have extensively studied methods of teaching to English Language Learners, and native speakers alike. I have also conducted research in rhetoric studies and language acquisition. My greatest teaching philosophy (though I cannot claim it to be original), is "Can't never could!" This is such an important concept, for students as well as their teachers and tutors. Without belief in the student on the part of the teacher or tutor, I feel that a student is more likely to fail. I believe in optimistic approaches and positive reinforcement in the teaching process.
