My comments on tutoring Sign Language : I am fluent in sign language I learned in school and I also had the opportuinty to experience it hands on with a spouse who has been deaf since birth.

I am fluent in sign laguage, I am in school now, so I am not certified yet but I can teach what is and or has been taught to me. I also have a spouse that is deaf and has taught me alot as well so I have hands on experience as well. I eager to teach what I have learned , simple do to the fact that I am a strong believer that the world should show more interest in other languages than there own, I choose this because, watched how my spouse struggled to be understood when we went out. And I wanted to change the way people looked at his situation, he not disabled I look at him the way I look at the Hispanics that come here and are not understood, now there are more interpreters for them I want to do the same for our deaf community.

I am an experienced teacher, tutor, and study skills coach who believes in the giftedness of each and every child and person. Every child is exceptional and deserves to know there are no failures. I've had the joy of working over 25 years in hospitals, public schools, private schools, home school programs and in private work with children and young adults. My experience over the years has taught me that the joy of teaching is skillfully, creatively and artistically/playfully opening potentials of learning with children, guiding them as they experience becoming more confident, trusting themselves, and appreciating their unique talents, strengths, and skills.
My basic teaching style is to get to know the child and his or her strengths, create a loving and safe space where he or she can experience self expression, exploration, making choices, problem solving, being aware of ... read more

I recently relocated to the Huntersville area. I recently graduated from UNCW with a degreee in Psychology with a focus on children. Since middle school, working with children has been my passion. I realized my dream after some of my cousins came over to America from the war torn country of Liberia and were having a very hard time adjusting. I was accepted to UNC Chapel Hill's Master's Program for Rehabilitation but declined after fearing it would take me down the path of working with the elderly instead of working with children. I have very extensive experience working with children at camps, researching at UNCW, tutoring foster children, and special needs with Lindley Habilitation services in Wilmington (mainly working with a client having Hunter's syndrome who was learning sign language, etc). I am both CPR and first aid certified. I have used all my knowledge of math (especially st ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Coming from a family of teachers, I have been involved in the educational field all of my life. I began my educational career by working in morning and after school programs. Later I continued in education by working at the nationally accredited Early Childhood Research Center teaching 2-5 year olds. While completing my master's degree I was a substitute teacher in the city of Buffalo, NY and an ESL and Spanish tutor at the university level. Once I completed my master's degree I taught Spanish for students in grades 5-12 in the inner city of Buffalo and the suburb of West Seneca, NY. After 2 years of teaching in NY I moved to Charlotte, NC where I have been teaching ESL (grades K-5). In my education career, I have taught and/or tutored every grade level from 2 year olds to adults.
I have a natural approach teaching style to second language learning. Based on Krashen's research stud ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I am dedicated to enthusiastic and dynamic teaching as a means of creating and nurturing a lifelong love of learning for students of all ages. I will use a wide variety of teaching aids and implementation strategies to engage and enlighten students in active learning. It is important to encourage youth and adults to express their talents in a moralistic and life-changing manner.
As an honors graduate from the University of South Florida, I grew up with a strong foundation in education. I spent my senior year of high school (when most people are occupied by senior year activities and proms) in college doing the Early Admissions Program. I graduated early from both high school and college with honors. During my college career, I held three internships - two of which were in education and the arts.
