I am a 2014 graduate of Marymount University where I received a Masters in Special Education. I have teaching experience at both the elementary and middle school levels. In middle school, I focused on teaching 7th grade Math, but am comfortable in Language Arts as well. Along with teaching, I have been a nanny for many years and therefore have experience with kids beyond the classroom. I believe each person is unique and different. Therefore, my teaching style is individualized depending on the student and their needs. I have had an extensive career in business. I have had a number of accounting/finance positions in the business world. My most successful position was with a chain of 30 Hallmark stores. I started as the accountant and eventually became the President of the company. I have had other positions as Controller and Accountants of other businesses. I prefer to begin by having the student describe the current subject matter to the best of his/her abilities to determine a starting point. I have found that having the student talk through the subject matter can be useful in determining his/her strengths and level of understanding. I like to have the student work through some problems they have not been assigned from their book/notes so that they are able to practice and work through some other problems before attempting any assignments. I have also found that it is useful to go over any previous quizzes or tests related to the current subject matter as difficulties are sometimes related to previous work because with these subjects the work tends to build upon itself.
