MBA, BS prepared professional looking to tutor

I am an 15 year IT professional, the last 3 with the University of Iowa. I also have 6 years of chemical/biologincal operations and technical writing experience with Abbott Laboratories and SC Johnson Wax. Schooling includes a BS in Business/MIS with a minor in English and an MBA with concentration in International Business and Finanace. I am preparing to begin a PhD program in Business, and have scored a GMAT of 770 in 2005 and a GRE of 1330 in 2010.
My primary goal is to help students understand the "why" of studies. "Why" do we look for differentials in calculus? "Why" do we describe imagery in poetry instead of just saying how we feel? A Little Bit About Me...

I feel that everyone has the ability to learn; but we all learn at different rates and in different ways. It is a matter of finding what works best for the learner and having the patience to get them through the fears that come with learning something new...or learning something that has not come easily. I like to use a lot of descriptive words and illustrations which I find are very helpful for many people, and I believe that much repetition is essential for retention of the material.
I received an associate's degree in accounting and I am currently enrolled at Kaplan University in the Health Sciences program. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always had a strong appreciation for education and learning new things. My educational experience was strengthened when I attended Cornell College, which has a strong liberal arts program. I immediately took an interest in the sciences and pursued a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Pre-medicine. My education was additionally complimented when I immersed myself in several language, mathematic, English, and humanity courses, which gave me a strong diversity in the liberal arts curriculum. Teaching is my passion. My teaching style is to first evaluate the extent of the student's knowledge in the specific subject area and then start from the beginning and brush up, filling the gaps in knowledge. I work quite well with non-traditional learners and use props when I need to. Sometimes I find that this is the best approach for visual learners. I have worked with students of many different backgrounds, ages, and abilities. I love to help a student find that "a-ha" moment where he or she finally understands a concept that has been a struggle. I enjoy teaching new concepts or working with students to master a concept.
I currently teach in an interim classroom for secondary students who have been suspended or expelled. I teach all subjects, but am most comfortable with LA and math. Before this, I taught in a high school classroom for students with behavioral disabilities. I taught LA and social skills.
