I believe that education is a fundamental pillar in a person's life, that anyone can learn, and that people can teach each other. My goal is to help students learn what they need to be successful by using hands-on approaches where they can manipulate subject matter and "own it," meaning that they understand it thoroughly. My primary activities during my professional career have been teaching and counseling. When I taught sailing to young kids, I used to dress up like a pirate. I have lots of energy. I know I'm doing my job right when kids start laughing. When I taught to teenagers, I kept in mind my own experiences at that age. If I'm helping a student study hard on that big, important test that might have the ability to crush the student's soul - I bust out my acoustic guitar and sing about how It's The End of The World As We Know It (And This Test Means Very Little In The Long Run).

I have been extremely fortunate the last couple years to gain a lot of teaching experience through substituting and student teaching, as well as tutoring. I knew that I wanted to share what I was passionate about with others before I completed my undergraduate program in biology with certification cum laude.  Once I earned my bachelors of science degree, I pursued my masters program slowly having the opportunity to incorporate my love for the ocean and earning an Eisenhower Fellow at the same time.  My masters of science degree is in the natural sciences.  Although I have taught science and math to both public and private classes, grades 7-12, today, I am the vocational/educational specialist for a group home for young mothers as well as a town tutor.
