My comments on tutoring Journalism : I am NYS certified in Literacy (grades 5-12) and English (grades 7-12), although I have several years of experience with children as young as Kindergarten.

Holding active NYS certifications in both English and Literacy has had a tremendous impact on the way I teach. I find myself much better able to engage struggling students. Quite often, particularly when it comes to reading, it is the lack of basic comprehension skills that prevent students from being able to fully engage with a text and to perform critical thinking tasks. I have love for the art of writing.

I prefer one-on-one only because that's how I personally learn best, and in a one-on-one atmosphere it's easier to pinpoint what one particular child is having problems with.
As far as experience goes, I've just spent four years as a professional writing major at Kutztown University. I don't have a teaching degree, but I do have experience working with children at Over the Rainbow Nursery School.
