My comments on tutoring Language Arts : I am NYS certified in Literacy (grades 5-12) and English (grades 7-12), although I have several years of experience with children as young as Kindergarten.

Holding active NYS certifications in both English and Literacy has had a tremendous impact on the way I teach. I find myself much better able to engage struggling students. Quite often, particularly when it comes to reading, it is the lack of basic comprehension skills that prevent students from being able to fully engage with a text and to perform critical thinking tasks. Language Arts is one of my top subjects! Being a middle school English teacher for the past 5 years, I have a great deal of experience working with those who need help in Language Arts. I specialize in everything from grammar, to punctuation, to even making inferences, and locating literary techniques in short stories and nonfiction pieces. I know a great deal on the subject.

I prefer online tutoring, but in the classroom, I usually use project-based learning, which encompasses everything from reading to listening to creating until the subject is mastered.
