I believe in following the Socratic method in my teaching, and encourage students to ask questions and take command of their own learning. Frequently I will have the students take turns presenting problems or answers to questions that they have asked me themselves in class before. I've found that occasionally the best way for a student to learn is to have them research the answers to their questions on their own, and present their findings to the class as a whole. It is through teaching each other that students learn best.

I am currently teaching an Anatomy and Physiology course for nurses looking to pass the RN liscensing exam. My approach to teaching is centered around the particular goals of the student or students. Clearly, a course centered around a liscensing test will focus on the material that will be on that test. Otherwise, teaching has to be catered to the student's ability to learn the material and focus on the weakness in understanding the concepts involved in the material.
I am currently teaching anatomy and physiology courses to students training to become licensed Registered Nurses. The courses focus on basic science principles and the relationship of these concepts to human function and structure, clinically.

I find an interactive, Socratic teaching style in which I encourage the student to discover the answers on their own to understand why something works the way it does is a very effective approach for me rather than just lecturing, particularly for younger learners. I find it equally important for students to understand the why of what they are learning as well as the how and the what. I believe that students' multiple intelligences should be harnessed and that if students don't understand information presented initially, it is up to the teacher to find different ways of presenting the information so that the student can make it his or her own.
