I'm PhD physicist with more than 20 years of tutoring experience at all possible levels and with variety of students ranging from gifted kids of elementary school to PhD students of Wash Uni as well as active tutors themselves.<><><><> I'm really patient (even with my own kids!) and start with putting myself in my student's shoes. I'm using variety of tools to deliver knowledge: verbal, visual, graphical, math formulas, examples from everyday life! From my point of view there is no concept or problem which cannot be approached by anyone with any experience at least to some extent. Sure that might take some time and efforts but that's it. Sounds too weird? But I can tell you that there is a way to explain Big Bang or String Theory (some advanced theories in Physics) or Topology (Advanced Math) to elementary school students ... and I've done something similar or even got grant for thi ... read more

My experience, specifically within the past two years, has been extensive. During this time spent at Webster University I was hired by the Student Literacy Corps, a non-profit organization funded by the university for the purpose of educating students in the St. Louis Public School District in English and writing. In addition to experience in the classroom in developing and implementing lesson plans and developing interpersonal skills with children of many ages, I also studied subjects such as calculus, astrophysics, South African history, and music theory. My experience in school has made me a well-rounded academic, and my experience outside of school has made me a well-rounded educator. I have confidence that I possess the tools necessary to help a child excel in any subject they choose to study.
My goal is to help children in any context that I can. Although I have my sights set ... read more

There are many arrays of learning styles. I personally use visually, writing, and seeing the bigger picture. First, the mind can develop a concept or help map out the ideas by seeing the picture to the learning task. Second writing helps to reinforce the concept or idea. Lastly seeing the bigger picture helps to encompass their own ideas as well as the originator ideas.

I like teaching students by explaining the material in a way I think is easiest to understand. I always emphasize how the material relates to what students already knows and how they can use what they know to solve problems. Often students cannot see how what they are learning can ever be useful in real life situations so I also try to give examples of when they might use what we are covering. Most importantly I am still a student myself I find I always learn better with examples so I always try to work through plenty of examples.

For some children, some subjects are hard to understand. Children can get frustrated just by not being able to understand the subject matter. My approach is to alleviate that frustration by going through the steps slowly and demonstrating these steps several times. In addition, I allow students to go through the steps on their own with my assistance so that I can catch any mistakes that they make. I am patient, and I find creative ways for children to learn. For example, I might relate a math concept to some aspect in everyday life. I utilize tools that I learned in school that helped me learn things easier.
Throughout my education, I learned easy ways to teach myself concepts. I have a BS in Biology and a Master’s in Public Administration. These degrees as well as my research experience have taught me analytical and writing skills. I have taken Calculus I, Calculus II, Tri ... read more
