I love teaching and working with all children. I firmly believe that all children learn differently. Individualization is an important part of my teaching style. I think it is important to identify what the student needs to work on and present it in a way the student can grasp the concept and enjoy learning. The student has to enjoy learning to succeed. I try to present material in such a way that the student will find it interesting and use different techniques to help them remember what they have learned. I also use the pre-teaching/re-teaching strategy. I can identify and help students with learning disabilities because I myself have a learning disability. Although I myself was considered to be a slow learner and I had (and still have) dyslexia, I never the less taught myself how to study and how to get through high school, college, and graduate school. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style will vary depending on the class as a whole or the type of student I am working with individually. In order to be an effective teacher I have seen that I need to be flexible with how I present material to a student. If a student is visual I am able to create diagrams and use props to show a concept rather than only speak the material. Some students need hands on and things like manipulatives in math help create a concrete way to remember a concept, and this is also something I do. In my mind success as a teacher is largely based on the success of the student and I am able to figure out what a specific child needs and adjust my teaching style to that student.

I graduated high school in 2000 with a local diploma and then went on to college at Utica School of Commerce. I graduated in 2002 with an Associated Degree as an Administrative Specialist. I have worked at a few different jobs and just went back to college again at Utica School of Commerce and got my certificate degree as a Medical Office Assistant.

As I was once a child with a speech impediment, I received many services such as reading and writing and speech therapy throughout my elementary years. I feel it is important to help children and students receive the services they need to succeed as soon as possible. I believe students learn best with hands on experiences and in multiple modalities.
