I have been working with special needs students with various disabilities for 10 years. I have worked with students ranging from ADHD/ADD to those who are bed ridded and need toileting assistance. I have also had to accommodate with feeding and those who are transitioning out of high school. The method of teaching I prefer is maieutic, i.e., one which draws knowledge from the student, rather than attempts to place it in him/her from without. To me, the process of asking questions and allowing the student's curiosity and intelligence to reach conclusions is far more effective than one-sided lecturing.
