My approach is a little different using humor to destress students. I believe in each student understanding the underlying concepts via instruction, physical materials and hands-on activities. I have a lot of patience. I love working with different and even difficult and shy students. I am a seasoned veteran tutor, and I enjoy, no love, mentoring, teaching, volunteering, training, or instructing almost as a hobby! My teaching experience began at a Riverside County Probation Facility for Wards of the court in Banning California. I began there as a Building Maintainance Mechanic and worked my way up to a vocational education teacher. After that I worked at St. Johns School for boys in Cabazon California. While I lived in California I also worked at a Christian High School called Joshua Springs High School where I began teaching a free small wood Shop class and worked my way up to a regular teacher. I believe that every student has an innate ability to learn. It is the tutor's job to find out the approach that will yield the best results with each individual student. I graduated with my Master's in Chemical Engineering in 1985 and have used that experience and my life experience to excel at the tutoring that I have done over the last 15+ years. Although I do not have a degree in Education, I have years of experience as a teaching assistant, teacher, tutor and curriculum designer. My experience mostly focuses on helping students improve their writing skills, but I also work with students with their reading comprehension since they go hand in hand. I have taught composition at the community college level which enables me to help students with papers at all levels from basic exposition to research methodology and citation format. I enjoy working with young people and making an impact on their academic success.
