My method is to reach students exactly where there at and use methods that would stimulate all types of learners . Once I was teaching a group of sixth graders who would be entering Algebra soon. I gave them a true life math example. Our equasion; a party with the number of students, quantity of different items and costs. When we devided the items their costs with the number of students we came up with how much each student had to pitch in. In this example I had some items that were to be used and they were able to touch them. I also told them very clearly what was going on while I was writing it all down. As an undergrad I attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, a school well-known for its academic excellence, where I studied Christian Education under a group of highly talented professors. While this degree was not a typical teaching degree, it incorporated a significant amount of educational theory, communication skills, and developmental psychology which I have used as a mentor, Sunday school teacher, and tutor. I then attended Fuller Theological Seminary as a master’s student where I studied theology and youth ministry. This program allowed me to further study the developmental issues connected with adolescents, as well as increase my writing and critical thinking skills through the study of theology, philosophy, and history. I love to teach. I have experience with 5-50 years old and, if pressed, could not name a favorite group. I believe that everyone can learn; some of us just process information in different ways. As a tutor it is my job to discover how a student processes information and adapt my lesson to accommodate them. Learning can be both fun and serious, as long as it is productive. I enjoy working with young people and making an impact on their academic success. I don't know if I have a particular teaching style, but I believe that education is not a "one size fits all" proposition and good educators must adapt their style to fit the needs of their student which I strive for every time I meet a new student. Although I do not have a degree in Education, I have years of experience as a teaching assistant, teacher, tutor and curriculum designer. My experience mostly focuses on helping students improve their writing skills, but I also work with students with their reading comprehension since they go hand in hand.
