Everyone has the ability to learn but not everyone has the same ability. Most people are visual or tactile learners whereas most teachers, in my experience, use verbal/aural instruction methods. I believe in tailoring my teaching to the needs of the student and not to what I am most relaxed with. I have personally taught several tactile students who had to have something in their hands or they could not grasp the concepts. Other times I've instructed students in strong visual methods incorporating drawings, artwork and short videos.

I have worked with at-risk children in the Chicago Public Schools system to teach a wide range of skills, primarily focusing on college readiness skills, essay and resume writing, ACT preparation, and remedial and advanced reading techniques. I am also highly qualified to teach speech and journalism, and have a year of experience in each as well. A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching when I was homeschooling my own children. They joined a weekly co-op and I was asked to teach high school level writing, public speaking and music appreciation for co-op students(not all at the same time). I discovered that students who took my classes were later commended by professors in college for their writing and speaking skills. I began substitute teaching in 2001, and eventually obtained my master's degree in secondary education. I have continued to work in the public schools as a substitute teacher.
