I am a professional opera/choral singer and I perform regularly with companies including Seattle Opera, Bellevue City Opera, Northwest Opera in Schools, Etc, and Tacoma Opera. I have also attended musical festival including Utah Festival Opera, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, and Vancouver International Art Song Institute. I have been teaching for ten years, and work with a variety of ages, skill levels, and musical interests.

A Little Bit About Me...

During my undergraduate years at the University of Oregon, I spent several months in Mexico teaching English to children ranging in age from 6-15. During this time I perfected my Spanish as well, and wrote many papers in both Spanish and English. While pursuing my Electrical Engineering degree at the University of Tulsa, I taught Kumon math classes to children, and fellow Engineering students in electronics. I have kept up my French reading and speaking skills. Recently I have been intensively studying dance, especially salsa, Argentine tango, and African, and have been taking some ballet classes. I find that I am very effective at helping beginning dance students to develop their talents.

A Little Bit About Me...

During my studies at USU I worked at Adams Elementary both as a Teachers Aid as well as a Mentor during the After School Program. I worked one-on-one as well as in groups of students grade k-5. This position was one of the most rewarding and enjoyable that I've had and would love to continue. I have also taught American Sign Language at the University in their ASL Labs for a year.
Everyone has the ability to learn but not everyone has the same ability. Most people are visual or tactile learners whereas most teachers, in my experience, use verbal/aural instruction methods. I consider myself to be fun and entertaining and very approachable in my teaching methods. I believe that all learning builds upon a foundation of previous learning. The key to helping a student to retain information is to make certain that student possesses all the prior knowledge needed to support the new information. For example, it is very difficult to teach a student the concept of the passive verb voice if that student does not understand the difference between a verb and other parts of speech. I am a knowledge junkie and really enjoy discovering new things. As a teacher I often lead students down proverbial side roads that will introduce them to subjects they might not have otherwise studied.
