I have been a tutor at Merced College for about two and a half years. I have experience in tutoring fellow undergraduates students in college math, biology for non majors, college english and introduction to chemistry as well as general chemistry. During my travels through school i have had my fair share of peer study groups to help with the learning of the material to pass classes. I have also helped allot of my peers with understanding as well. I have tutored through Lassen Community College helping students who were struggling with the concepts of math at lower and higher level classes. One of my professors called me an asset to any tutoring group or peer study group in a recommendation letter to Merced College for tutoring. I am very understanding and try to explain things in ways that it clicks.

After having both tutored and taught in the classroom, I find tutoring to be more enjoyable. Since each student learns in a different way it is much easier to teach them one-on-one than a whole classroom full. I’ve always enjoyed watching their faces light up when they figure out a problem for the first time. I believe that tutoring is a very powerful tool because a lot of students need that extra push to succeed that they can’t get being in a classroom.
As a college student, I enjoyed helping others and began working in the tutoring center at Merced College. After I transferred to CSU Stanislaus, I worked both at the tutoring center and for a state program that placed me in one of the local high schools to work with groups of seniors with low math scores in order to help improve their SAT scores. I have always been interested in teaching other people who are struggling to keep up with their school work. I acknowledge their difficulty with the subject because it takes time and effort to master the curriculum. As a student, I believe it would be a good experience to teach what I learned and passed on to other people. I truly enjoy teaching and working with all levels of math learners. I was blessed to have great math teachers in my education that transferred their passion for the subject on to me. Many students are very apprehensive when they enter math classes because the concepts seem so foreign.
