As a graduate student at Kansas State University I have learned the value of education. My education in Political Science working towards my BS has given a high degree of competence in math, history, and social sciences. From past tutoring experiences, I have discovered that all people have the ability to learn, but each person learns in their own way. My tutoring method is a direct reflection of the way in which I was taught. Asking questions is strongly encouraged, and I work to help students answer their own questions rather than simply providing the solution. I am also a firm believer that visualizing a problem and/or breaking it down into smaller segments enhances the learning experience and promotes long-term knowledge retention. I have tutored Algebra through Calculus I and Elementary Statistics for the last three years. 1.5 years at both Wichita State University and Washburn University. I'm currently working on a second Bachelors degree in mathematics, but this time with an emphasis in Actuarial Science. This mixes calculus, algebra, and statistics, along with some business classes, into one, keeping them fresh in my mind. I like starting with the given information and stepping through the processes to solve a problem. Reminding them of, or even showing them, the rules, properties, and examples in the book. I normally try to find the method that best works with each pupil, then highlight on that. I also make sure not to do the work for the student. I will sometimes come up with a similar problem to work through so they can see what's really going on within the problem.
