I really like working with children from low income families. I think each child has a different interest and way of learning. I try to discover these learning styles before I begin the tutoring process. I try to allow them to be comfortable and having fun during our sessions. Most of the time I do a lot of question/conversation responses to allow them to find the answer for themselves. I like a problem based learning style, even for the youngest of children. I not only want to teach them how to properly concur their learning material but how to find the information they need if they do not know the answer. Additionally, I want them to have fun and enjoy quality time with a supportive mentor and gain an enthusiasm for school.

I enjoy helping others understand concepts that they are struggling with. It is very gratifying when a student has that "a ha" moment. I am a little strict with instruction. If a student is not paying attention or has not completed an assignment that I've asked him/her to do, I will not overlook it. I think that, in the interest of the end goal of improving grades, it's absolutely necessary to stay on task and on target throughout the process.

As a former student and professional athlete, I am a very self-motivated person. From the University of Florida I earned a B.A. in History and a Minor in Education. Last year, I worked in the classroom as a substitute teacher on all three major levels of grade school education. In addition, I have been a supervisor and counselor at various camps which require long hours and spendig individual time with children.
I love teaching and working with children. I believe good communication is what makes life efficient. In my mind, good communication requires a positive, instructive, and detail manner.
