More About This Tutor...

I am an independent financial consultant, and I have three children. Consequently I've been tutoring many years for my children and have experience teaching math from first grade to high school. Two sons already grew up and are in college. Both are successful examples of my tutoring. The youngest son is in the 8th grade now. Throughout the experience of teaching them I learned the patience and example methods that can be universally applicable. I myself studied math in the undergraduate and studied business in the graduate school. Let me help your child be my next success story!

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that everyone can learn given the right motivation and explanation of a particular subject. In my tutoring experience, I have guided one person with minimal math skills through a pre-calculus course and another person with problems in addition and subtraction through an algebra course. Both of these people received grades of A in these courses. In my professional I have taken many people with inadequate computer skills and taught them to set up and configure Windows operating systems.
As an engineering technician, I recognized that in order to advance my career I would need to possess at least a Bachelor’s degree. To achieve this, I began attending college while working full-time. Over the course of 11 years, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from New York Institute of Technology and a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Polytechnic University. More About This Tutor...

I love teaching high and college level courses. I would like to develop love of math instead of hate towards math.
I have been taking advanced courses in mathematics within Hunter College since 2007 and have been heading towards MA in Pure Mathematics. I would like to use my quantitative skills in my job. I strongly believe that everything an economist/mathematician does involves analyzing situations and making decisions. That is why analytical skills-the ability to identify, analyze and solve problems under conditions of incomplete information and uncertainty-are very crucial skills. I had a strong quantitative study in my academic and career background and I like to analyze any given matter with a quantitative approach.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a Ph. D student in a Mathematics department, I have been a teaching assistant for the following college courses: Calculus 1 (limits, derivatives and integrals), Calculus 2 (Integration techniques, Taylor Series), Calculus and Statistics for Business, Probability and Statistical Theory, Advanced Mathematics for Engineers. As a teaching assistant, I met with students twice a week for an hour and solved problems with them, expounding on difficult concepts and providing insight into problem-solving. Additionally, I held regular office hours where students came to get one-on-one instruction. This method of instruction was very popular, and I was given a teaching award by the mathematics department as a result.
I am interested only in instructing serious students. These are students who will work tirelessly to achieve the goals set out for them, and who will come to a tutoring s ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I like to use the hands on approach. I find out what the weaknesses are of my students and address the topics by giving a general review. I present a problem for them to work out. After a few minutes, I ask them what they think is the best way to approach the problem. If they cannot come up with one, I then guide them through the appropriate thinking pattern in order for them to solve the problem. For me repetition of different related problems is the key to success.
I elected to be a stay at home mom after a successful career. I wanted a flexible work schedule and thought about tutoring. I found that I loved tutoring students ranging from elementary to college level. I found much satisfaction in students' improved grades and the mastery of the subject that I was able to impart. I strongly believe that education is the doorway to a successful career and tough subjects such as math ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am interested in tutoring mathematics. I began as a Teaching Assistant while earning my Bachelor's, and continued as a Graduate Assistant while earning my Master's. Over the years, I taught gifted students in the International Baccalaureate program in high school, freshman and adult learners in the calculus sequence at university, and remedial courses at two community colleges. In addition, I have correlated mathematics textbooks to state standards, developed instructional media for the computer, facilitated the use of ALEKS software, and taught online classes using virtual classroom software like D2L.
I am genuinely interested in the success of each of my students. I am able to customize my instruction to each student's particular style of learning. Because of my warmth and compassion, students who suffer from math and\or test anxiety find that they can enjoy math, over tim ... read more

I love opening students' eyes to the wonders of science. It is my experience that a student can learn anything, even the most complicated scientific theories, if the teacher is patient and engaging. In teaching, I find the key to unlocking the minds of the students is to find the appropriate analogy or metaphor. If a teacher can aptly relate a concept the student doesn’t understand to one that the student does understand, not only will the student learn the new concept, they will be far less likely to forget it in the future. I find this method to be effective in teaching concepts as complicated as quantum physics, and in teaching concepts as non-intuitive as learning how to play a drum roll.
While earning my undergraduate degree in Physics, I took advantage of a work-study opportunity at Franklin and Marshall and became a Physics and Chemistry Tutor for the introductory classe ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I started around 2005 tutoring for the departments of chemistry and math in Queensborough Community College, from the basic levels in organic chemistry 2 and calculus. I earned my Associate degree in science from Queensborough Community College and finished my Bachelor Degree in Stonybrook University. At Stonybrook University also tutor chemistry and math. During the summer 2006, I had the entire department of chemistry tutoring under my guide. My experience comes from teaching my own classes and from interacting with my students.
My style is open to discussion. I like to ask questions to the student about the knowledge they have and based on that, apply my knowledge to build a strong base to be used as a core to solve more problems. I live the one on one interaction but also love the group discussion. I used to tutor an entire classroom during summer for 6 hours straight.

A Little Bit About Me...

Have been tutoring both high school and college students in mathematics for 13 years. I have tutored students in algebra, geometry, precalculus, calculus, and statistics. I have tutored both student that were struggling to pass and also students who just wanted to improve their performance but were doing satisfactorily without help.
Allowing the student to make mistakes and then learn from them. Allow the student to show me not only the correct answer but also to be able to explain how they came to that answer. Preaching to a student and doing the problem for them and hoping that they can then figure out future problems of the same type is in my opinion a subpar teaching style.
