I love opening students' eyes to the wonders of science. It is my experience that a student can learn anything, even the most complicated scientific theories, if the teacher is patient and engaging. In teaching, I find the key to unlocking the minds of the students is to find the appropriate analogy or metaphor. If a teacher can aptly relate a concept the student doesn’t understand to one that the student does understand, not only will the student learn the new concept, they will be far less likely to forget it in the future. Allowing the student to make mistakes and then learn from them. Allow the student to show me not only the correct answer but also to be able to explain how they came to that answer. Preaching to a student and doing the problem for them and hoping that they can then figure out future problems of the same type is in my opinion a subpar teaching style.
Have been tutoring both high school and college students in mathematics for 13 years. I have tutored students in algebra, geometry, precalculus, calculus, and statistics.
