I don't think I have really developed a "unique style" by only teaching a year or so. I am a very patient person and I really like to see the "sparkle" in a students eye, when they truly understand something for the 1st time. I like to explain a concept and then give the student a problem and see if they get it. If not, I will go over as many times necessary...until they understand the material. I approach teaching and tutoring as an exercise in problem solving. It requires assessment of the student's background, previously mastered skills, learning style, and engagement with the content. I believe that anyone can be taught anything; the key is developing an engaged, encouraged student with the fundamental knowledge to grasp the concepts at hand. Having been a lacrosse coach for the past five years will really help me assist every person I tutor in reaching his/her goals. Every child is different, and I have found that finding out how a child learns is just as important, if not more important, than the subject material itself.
