Shakespeare is one of my top subjects! Acted in and directed several of Shakespeare's plays in the Bay Area and in New England. Shakespeare's work can be approached as theatrical literature or as poetry - and as both. Study includes scansion, and content and language analysis.

I have over thirty years experience teaching Theatre and Language Arts for public and private educational and performance organizations, including elementary school through junior college classes, and a mime/movement class at Yale University. My comments on tutoring Shakespeare : I know Shakespeare inside and out, with more than 25 years in the theater.

I assess the student's level of mastery by listening to parents, communicating with the student (in whatever appropriate way needed) and then doing some basic testing. Once the student is assessed, I design a learning environment and activities that coincide with the student's specific strengths, while adding some elements of challenge. I tend to work in a very focused way for 10-15 minutes, and then add in tactile activities (like Bannana Grams for example) for 10 minutes or so, in order to maintain the student's attention. Children and youth who are struggling to read and write get patient assistance to learn the words correctly. My comments on tutoring Shakespeare : Since I was about six years old I have been going to the Santa Cruz Shakespeare festival. I love Shakespeare and I can understand it almost fluently. I also blended two of Shakespeare's plays in high school and created Much Ado About Macbeth.

I would say my teaching style is really focused on the student and what they need. In school I was an average student never getting lower than a C or higher than in an A. So I really want to focus on listening to the student, especially because they probably are not heard at school. I want to make each subject interesting to the student, whether that means going out and playing basketball or chess or candy or anything the student absolutely loves. I want to attach each subject to a good memory, I don't want to pressure them or push them to just memorize facts that I know they will probably forget after they are tested. From my own personal experience I want any student I tutor to turn around and actually enjoy learning about a subject they are having trouble with.
