My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : What is the difference between Reading and Reading Comprehension? If you do not comprehend what you read you are not reading, are you?

Reading Comprehension is one of my top subjects! Reading comprehension is something I truly excel at, whether for the young beginning reader, the struggling student, or the advanced and hungry reader, looking for a challenge.

I assess the student's level of mastery by listening to parents, communicating with the student (in whatever appropriate way needed) and then doing some basic testing. Once the student is assessed, I design a learning environment and activities that coincide with the student's specific strengths, while adding some elements of challenge. I tend to work in a very focused way for 10-15 minutes, and then add in tactile activities (like Bannana Grams for example) for 10 minutes or so, in order to maintain the student's attention. My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : I work very well with children to help them focus and process reading material more quickly to expand their learning.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have successfully completed a Beacon tutor course in preparation for individual and group tutor sessions. I led a semester long Beacon tutoring supplement course in Organic Chemistry that supported 20 junior college students. I have effectively tutored/mentored a number of high school students in general education coursework, organizational skills, and in preparation for exit examinations. I have conducted community based math group sessions for junior high and high school students. Finally, I have supported 1st and 2nd grade elementary school students in math and reading comprehension. I personally create and provide worksheets and additional materials to support students' mastery of coursework. Students under my mentorship have achieved at least a 40% increase on grade reports and above average scores on examinations.
