Don't tell me 2+2=4. Tell me WHY 2+2=4.

Although I wish I could count the endless amount of time I spent playing teacher as a child, I know parents are looking for more expierence than an eight year old and her dolls. I have tutored children, ages ranging from eight to fourteen, off and on for three years. A Little Bit About Me...

Just telling a child how to do a problem is not effective. I believe a teacher needs to explain the logic and reasoning behind solving certain problems certain ways. Knowing this can help the child discover what works specifically to him/her. If a child learns to reason for his/her self, they gain the ability to be lifetime learners. My hope is, that instead of dreading school they gain confidence in their abilities to figure things out, and therefore find joy in learning. Above all it is important to listen to the kids, stay positive, and never show frustration.

After graduating with a bachelor's degree with a major in Spanish and minors in English and French, I began teaching high school Spanish my first year. Since I married a military officer, we moved often, so I had a chance to do substitute teaching at all grade levels and all subjects.
