I am a native German with conservatory training in theatre. Both my training and subsequent career in Europe were of the highest caliber. I studied acting in Berlin at the Ernst Busch Hochschule für Schauspielkunst, and while still in my third year, I was recruited by the Berliner Ensemble, where I worked successfully as a company member for two years. Thereafter I joined Berlin’s Schaubühne, where I worked for another two years, again at the highest level of European theatre.
My approach to teaching is informal and fun, with an emphasis on conversation, including diction and pronunciation, colloquial speech and idioms, as well as public speaking and culture. I received my B.A. in English from Appalachian State University where I also received training in education. Afterward, I became an instructor at Richmond Community College, teaching basic reading and math to adults with learning disabilities as well as a course on PC literacy & business training. In addition to classroom instruction, I've had one-on-one experience tutoring university students in English and Learning Skills.
I strongly believe that the success of education depends on how well it targets a student's learning style and values. Everyone can learn, but individual attention is a vital part of that. We don't all learn the same way or at the same speed, and these differences should be addressed in a positive and creative way to both convey the subject material and strengthen a student's ability to learn in the future.
