My approach to teaching is informal and fun, with an emphasis on conversation, including diction and pronunciation, colloquial speech and idioms, as well as public speaking and culture. The best retention of material and new skills comes when a student finds the subject engaging and is able to relate the subject to their own experiences, passions, and goals. All people learn differently; therefore, it is helpful when a student is able to learn particular methods and study skills that will continue to benefit their future learning. I received my B.A. in English from Appalachian State University where I also received training in education. Afterward, I became an instructor at Richmond Community College, teaching basic reading and math to adults with learning disabilities as well as a course on PC literacy & business training. In addition to classroom instruction, I've had one-on-one experience tutoring university students in English and Learning Skills.
I strongly believe that the success of education depends on how well it targets a student's learning style and values. Everyone can learn, but individual attention is a vital part of that. We don't all learn the same way or at the same speed, and these differences should be addressed in a positive and creative way to both convey the subject material and strengthen a student's ability to learn in the future.

I obtained my licensure through NCTEACH in Specific Learning Disabilities. I am Highly Qualified by way of Praxis exam. I have taught grades 6-12 in almost all disability identifications primarily math and language arts; however, have supported various other subject areas.
I believe that all students, regardless of gender, socioeconomic environment or ability, can learn and should be challenged with creative and applicable opportunities to achieve their best.
