A Little Bit About Me...

Hi! My name is Andrew Hoover and I started tutoring Mathematics/Science during my sophomore year in High School. Since then, I have continued to help others within my classes up until I reached community college. It was in 2008 that I became a certified tutor for Fresno City College, where I have been ever since. I tutor a wide range of subjects, from algebra to philosophy (Symbolic Logic) and even biology/chemistry. I have also held several workshops on various topics spanning study skills to subjects I have mentioned previously.
I prefer teaching/tutoring in a way that I actually draw the answer out of the student, whether immediate or prolonged. I am a very empathetic teacher who gears my teaching based on the learner's needs. Each learner has a unique style of learning, and it is important for me as a tutor to cater to the learner's strengths. For example, if a learner is visual, I will use diagrams and flow charts to help teach the information. No matter what, I will find a way to cater to a learner's strengths to help him or her learn the material.
I went to UC Merced with the goal of pursuing an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences, in order to prepare me for admission to a PharmD program. From my studies at UC Merced, I earned a 3.78 GPA, and gained admission to multiple PharmD programs in California. As an Application Engineer for a research company, it was my resposaability to train, instruct and give seminars on the material currently in vogue in Semiconductor, Biology, Physics, and Geology in materials to be analyzed. These seminars were meant to instruct and inform researchers of the techniques available. Most seminars were at colleges and universities in the U.S. and overseas. I began to wind down my travels and explored the potential of teaching locally. For the past three years I have been a substitute teacher in Tuolumne County district as well as 4 seminars every year.
