In May of 2010, I successfully completed my fourth year of teaching. Each year has been different. The children of today learn in many different ways. There has been a change in learning styles over the course of time. Some children may learn through hands on activities and modeling, while others learn through lecture. Regardless of the learning style, I have learned that it is my job to make learning relevant and meaningful to students. The role of the teacher is to be a facilitator. The teacher facilitates the students in making personal decisions as well as participates in discussions that affect society. The teacher also helps build a foundation in subject matter to help develop a lifelong appreciation and understanding of the world through different disciplines.

I love working with children and have two of my own. I am able to meet children where they are. I love to see the "Aha" moment when children figure out a concept. A lot of schools and classrooms are overcrowded and students need that special attention. As a Licensed Master Social Worker, I have worked with various at-risk populations, including child with behavioral and emotional problems. I, myself have an 8 year old son who has been diagnosed with ADHD and a mood disorder. I know how extremely hard it is for parents during homework time. I have been working in the social work field for over 5 years. I also worked for Memphis City Schools for two years in various capacities. I have tutored students in various subjects.

I feel that I can relate to children because I am also a child at heart. I believe in constant verbal quizzing and repitition as a means to develop the child's ability to retain knowledge and call it forth at will. I have learned from past work experiences that all people learn differently be it either visual, kinetic (hands-on), or verbal (by listening). By learning the child's learning type you can tell which method appeals to them and can create a learning environment to encourage their growth at a faster rate. I also have a history in the theatrical arts and vocal music performance which can assist in grasping the child's attention during those times of relaxed focus. Lastly, I feel that positive encouragment is key to building confidence and trust in those students with lowered self esteem. As a caregiver for my two nephews and one niece I feel that I am very qualified to work with
