I have a BA degree from the University of Central Florida in Education and a current Florida Teaching Certificate. I have taught high school for 18 years before relocating. At that time I worked in the informal education field as an afterschool program teacher and manager of a educational programming business, educational director at a Museum and Nature Center and opened my own educational business for developing educational programs. I am currently working on my Masters of Education Degree and desire to move into the Instructional Design and Technology field. I feel that the most important step to being an effective teacher is to make the material relevant. If the student does not see a relevant reason to learn the material, the learning curve will be much steeper. Then, I work hard to be sure the student understands my commitment to partner with him/her in the learning process, and that process is a two-way street. And, once I've determined the method of learning that works best for a student, I design the material to accommodate that method. Once these goals are met, success is assured. My first major mentoring/teaching experience occurred in college when I began leading study groups and eventually organizing tutoring sessions with a number of my fellow English, Calculus, and Physics students. I then obtained a position as a youth counselor with the YMCA and quickly moved up to Site Coordinator where I was in charge of my own after school care group, including being in charge of organizing activities and managing youth counselors. Most recently I underwent PADI Divemaster training where I had real world experience teaching and assisting PADI Open Water students with classroom, confined water, and open water training. I teach by using power point presentations so the students can see what we are learning as well as listen to the information. Each student is an individual and learnat a different pace so I try to encourage them through other activities as well. I have been a dentist for 20 years and when I retired I became a teacher.
