Experience Summary
My experiences as the oldest of seven children instilled in me the desire to educate others, so I obtained my BS degree in Biology and Secondary Education. I taught 7th and 8th grade sciences for five years before staying home to be a full time mother and substitute teaching on the high school level for 3 more years. I operated a small daycare during my children's growing years before returning to work fulltime in the business world. I have trained, mentored and supervised many, many young people over the years and still enjoy great personal reward from helping them grow as individuals, gain self-confidence and learn.
Teaching Style
I feel that the most important step to being an effective teacher is to make the material relevant. If the student does not see a relevant reason to learn the material, the learning curve will be much steeper. Then, I work hard to be sure the student understands my commitment to partner with him/her in the learning process, and that process is a two-way street. And, once I've determined the method of learning that works best for a student, I design the material to accommodate that method. Once these goals are met, success is assured.
