I earned my bachelor degree from the University of Minnesota Duluth in Teaching Secondary Mathematics and Secondary Earth and Space Science in 2001. Since that time, I have been teaching secondary classes at the same school which include: Earth science, astronomy, geology, transition mathematics, algebra I, algebra II, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and computer applications. I earned my Master of Science in Science Education from Montana State University in 2008. My thesis was on the effects of teaching through the multiple intelligences by incorporating art with the sciences. I would very much like to enter the teaching world so that I might share the knowledge that I have acquired over the years. I feel I would be an excellent tutor as I would be very patient and understanding of the challenges for young students. I definitely believe we can and should be teachers for the next generation. As the manager and head chemist of a solid fuels testing laboratory I have many years of experience training both high school and college interns. When tutoring I usually ask prompting questions to assist the person in working through a problem. By building off of the skills the student already has it helps them better understand the process. If a student is learning new material or does not understand the way something was explained I will try to come up with an alternative method. I will go through an example with them step by step ensuring that they understand what happens along the way. I try to relate problems to real life so that they will remember what they have learned better.

As an undergraduate student I worked at a general science and math tutor as well as a class specific calculus I tutor. I was teaching assistant for calculus I for two semesters and ran a study table for the athletic department for student with a GPA less than 2.5. As a graduate student I have taught both majors and non-majors biochemistry lab as well as general chemistry lab and discussion. I am three semesters away from completing two degrees, BS Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as well as BS Chemistry, at the University of Minnesota Duluth. I have a solid background in mathematics as well as biology and chemistry.
