I have a great joy working with children because most of them are eager to learn. Along with patience and proper instruction I am a firm believer the scores will be achieved without the child feeling diappointed. I believe through visual picture walks and other techniques children want to be successful and make their parents and teachers happy. My background is fairly well-rounded. In high school I went to the Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) and tutored high school students in the community in math and reading, as well as ESL. Also, part of the GSSM curriculum required students to do summer research at a 4-year institution in South Carolina. I did behavioral neuroscience research at USC. My interests then lead me to attend USC for college, and I went there for two years with a double major: English and Psychology. After a while, I found that research was not my life passion, and I transferred to Clemson University and changed my major to Animal and Veterinary Science, with the hope of going to veterinary school. I am a firm believer in relating material to real-world examples. I have found that many students are over-whelmed by material and do not see any application for the material, and thus they do not have the desire needed to absorb the material. I strive to make the material fun and break it down to small units so that it is easily absorbed.
I have spent 10 years in college academia resulting in a PhD as my terminal degree. Through my studies, I have acquired an in-depth knowledge of statistics, molecular biology, genetics, ecology, and bioinformatics to complete this degree. During my time in college, I also routinely volunteered as an undergraduate tutor in genetics, statistics, and basic biology. I also taught several labs in ecology.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed assisting our youth work through various academic endeavors. I have been tutoring grades k-12 for several years now. I have helped all ages with a wide variety of assignments.
My teaching style varies based on the age of the student. I like to be a little more animated with my k-6 graders. On the other hand, with my 7-12 graders I focus more so on making a connection with the material--showing them how it relates to them.
