It takes two to tutor...and tango!

I am an English major at the University of South Carolina Beaufort in my final semester of study and will be graduating in December with a BA and a concentration in writing. Though I have never formally been a tutor, I have always been the person that my friends have gone to for help with composing papers, interpreting and analyzing passages of literature, and general study skills for how to improve their writing and/or reading abilities. I am a member of my university's varsity softball team, and I have helped a lot of my teammates on long bus rides to games delve into a passage of Shakespeare or see the beauty behind Wordsworth's lines. English, particularly writing, is something I am very passionate about, and I love being able to help others in any way that I can in that field.

I believe the teaching world is so wonderful because the process of learning is never-ending, for the teacher and the student. Teachers and students gain information from each other and therefore make the learning process meaningful and relateable. I believe strongly that adapting lessons to students' lives is the best way for students to better understand and discover not only the lesson taught, but also their world. I stumbled upon the joy of teaching as I helped others learn to dive recreationally in my early 20’s. When I began my real estate career, I worked primarily with first time home buyers, whom I educated constantly. With the housing market collapse my desire to instruct in this manner grew as I segued into the insurance industry, and was given an opportunity to open a branch office and personally train over 50 agents in a one on one capacity over the course of two years. I still currently educate a class of insurance agents every few weeks on the complexity of products available to individuals in the market, and how to sell them, while sharing a few life lessons along the way.
