Most of the struggling students i have encountered seem to have a low confidence in themselves that interferes with their studies. I believe this is due to the manner in which students are tested; in order to fully understand a concept, the student has to be able to explain the concept and its application in his/her own words. By starting from the basic concept of the field of study and working up, the student can acquire real knowledge of the subject. A Little Bit About Me...

Since graduating with my Chemistry degree in 1997, I have volunteered off and on within the classroom, mentoring and tutoring children of all ages. I have several younger siblings and children of my own, so I have taken the many opportunities to go in and out of the classroom as a classroom parent, after school program teacher, guest speaker, and mentor and judge for the Future City competition (an annual engineering competition for middle school children). A Little Bit About Me...

I was hired full-time to teach in the sciences at a private college in Michigan. The subjects I taught included Anatomy and Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Nutrition, Chemistry and more. Over three years, I advanced to Dean of Health Sciences, and while I set up and administered programs in that area, I continued to teach in the sciences. After I moved to Wilmington, I taught for Miller-Motte College and one semester at Hoggard High School in Chemistry and Earth Science.
