A patient teacher to assist with learning.

I enjoy working with students who need to see visuals in reading and who need to have hands on experience in math.
All students can learn. Some just need a little more practice until they can consistently perform the task without assistance. I assist in teaching at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. I have been supporting student’s academics for over 8 years. My experience with students expands from pre-kindergarten to the 8th grade. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a degree in history. In addition to that, I have studied two years of elementary Spanish. Passionate about learning.

I have experience as a peer tutor. Since I am an avid reader, I love all things related to books, vocabulary, literature and English. I have young children that I help daily with homework assignments. I have also worked many years as a trainer in genetics. I am also a DI(directed instruction) volunteer for elementary school. My teaching style is based on reading then reviewing. At that point in time ask questions to see if the student has grasped the information being given. If not, answer questions then clarify. When reviewing information it is important to make sure the student knows reasoning behind subject matter so that they are understanding logic and not just memorizing information. In subjects that invloves math such as probability, chemistry, or statistics, I would do a few examples followed by letting the tutee working a few problems.

I believe in teaching according to the curriculum. However, I will also pull in information from other historical and academic sources that will enhance the student's learning experience. I believe in allowing the student to prove their capabilities by allowing them to demonstrate their knowledge in different ways. I believe students should take exams but they are not the only way I test students understanding of the material.
As a history major, I have a desire to learn more and teach more about the past. I have learned so much about the present through studying the past. I have written numerous papers and completed projects while in college. These will help me to teach students how to organize, prepare, and excel in history.
