My comments on tutoring American History : I recently received my B.A in History from SUNY Plattsburgh and I am currently pursuing a M.A in History at CUNY Brooklyn.

As a student of history in both undergraduate and graduate school I have been trained to read actively, think critically, and write creatively. I also have experience working as a Youth Advocate and Direct Service Professional. Additionally, I volunteered my time as a teaching assistant for two college level courses, Civilizations and Cultures of Southern Africa and African American Culture.
In the past I have engaged students with music, film clips and leading questions to put a new perspective on required reading.

I am not a professional teacher, but I played one in newsrooms at several newspapers. During a span of 20 years as reporter, sports writer, copy editor, section editor and editor-in-chief, I trained many new hires -- and even a few veterans -- in spelling, grammar, punctuation, comprehension of written material and in writing. A Little Bit About Me...

I worked as a teaching assistant for four years, while completing my Master's Degree. During this time I also did several leave replacements. I currently teach English Language Arts for 10th and 12th grade special education students. The students are emotionally and learning disabled.
The one word I would use to describe my teaching style is flexible. If something is not working and my students are not getting what I'm trying to teach I change my lesson plan mid-stream. Each student learns differently, and each class learns differently. It is my job to ensure all of their learning styles are achieved.
