My comments on tutoring American History : I recently received my B.A in History from SUNY Plattsburgh and I am currently pursuing a M.A in History at CUNY Brooklyn.

In the past I have engaged students with music, film clips and leading questions to put a new perspective on required reading.
As a student of history in both undergraduate and graduate school I have been trained to read actively, think critically, and write creatively. I also have experience working as a Youth Advocate and Direct Service Professional. As someone who felt in my youth that if I could only pay attention I could learn anything has taught me how to break down the barriers to focus and how it can shape a students success in any discipline. Focusing on my learning style has taught me how to demonstrate complex ideas in ways that are easy to absorb. I tend to find different ways to relate material to students in ways that are fun. I used a dollars and cents approach to teach young students the importance of decimals, fractions, and basic arithmetic as how it affected their own bottom line: their allowance, milk money and so on. A Little Bit About Me...

I worked as a teaching assistant for four years, while completing my Master's Degree. During this time I also did several leave replacements. I currently teach English Language Arts for 10th and 12th grade special education students. The students are emotionally and learning disabled.
The one word I would use to describe my teaching style is flexible. If something is not working and my students are not getting what I'm trying to teach I change my lesson plan mid-stream. Each student learns differently, and each class learns differently. It is my job to ensure all of their learning styles are achieved.
