As a special education teacher of six years I am fully aware of the multitude of learning styles that our students come to us with. As a teacher it is our responsibility to tap into their strenghts to bring about a thoughtful learning experience. In addition to recognizing strenghts, I am able to remediate areas of low acheivement, or when the case may be, circumvent the disability area so that the student can access the curriculum. I had two very different teaching experiences in my last semester at ASU. The first was teaching an upper-division psychology course to fellow undergrads. I had a group of 5 students that I was responsible for leading in class discussion, providing feedback on all coursework, as well as any help they needed understanding or applying the concepts. The second was acting as a tutor/mentor for students in an elementary school. I had two students with whom I spent 2 hours after school with twice a week. I planned and created fun, academically-oriented activities for these students that were tailored to meet each of their individual needs and interests. I found both experiences to be extremely rewarding. I grew up as a member of CampFire boys and girls, now CampFire USA, and have been attending and working at their summer camps for the last 18 years of my life. I am currently a program director at a CampFire summer camp and love working with kids of all ages. After finishing classes at Humboldt State in the winter of 2005, I worked for the Northwest Regional Education Service District (NWRESD) for a year and a half. For the NWRESD I worked for a year as the Program Coordinator for their Outdoor Science School on the coast of Oregon. In the Fall of 2007 I worked for the Outdoor Science School as the Forest Field Instructor and taught highschool counselors and sixth grade students about forest ecology. As a newly graduate from Northern Arizona University, I earned a BS in Biology with an emphasis in Zoology also 3 minors including: Mathematics, Spanish, and Chemistry. Over the past four years I have gained the understanding in various studies. Also I have written many research papers and laboratory reports in the sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Forestry. I have tutored High School students in math for AIMS and a high school student in Biology. I enjoy working with children, young adults, and adults. Teaching others in any way is beneficial for them and in the long run for me. I am a friendly and patient person that cares about the education of others and myself. I have been teaching since 2005, and doing one-on-one tutoring for just as long. I graduated with a BA in Anthropology, and an MA in Philosophy and Religion. Most of my teaching has been with children ages 10-14, though I have experience with everyone from Kindergarten to College. During my Masters, I wrote my thesis on the Philosophy of Science, and studied Ancient Archaeology in depth during my undergraduate years.
