A Little Bit About Me...

My passion is helping struggling readers become successful. I know how difficult it is for learners who do not like to read. Struggling readers who do not like to read have common characteristics. The most dominate characteristic is that they avoid reading at all cost. They avoid it because they have come to think they are not good at it and cannot do it. Little do they know that everyone can learn to read. To get better at something you have to practice doing it. Reading is no exception. With a little guidance everyone can learn to read. My hope is not only that struggling learners learn to read but learn the joy and love of reading! I am currently a licensed teacher who works with struggling readers. Social Studies and Creative Writing (English)

I am currently a Sociology student at Augsburg College. I am also pursuing a minor in Psychology. This year will be my last, so I will graduate in 2014. Also, I have taken several creative writing courses at the Loft Literary center, as well as at my College. I received a 4.0 in my courses. Also, in high school, I was always a level above in all English and composition classes.
I like to challenge people to think outside of the box. Although I know it is important to know how to take tests and write papers appropriately, I also know that showing skills that go above and beyond, is what makes a student stand out. After I received my degree in Elementary Education, I was a substitute teacher in IA for one year. I then worked, taught and advised at a small private college in Iowa. I have also owned and operated a daycare in my home for over three years. Currently have have spent the past two years as a substitute teacher for the Buffalo, MN school district.
