I am not young enough to know everything

I agree with the concept that each person learns a bit differently, and even more so that as a tutor, I should try and find the most effective style for my tutee. My academic career also taught me the importance of setting time limits for each action item; and switching tasks to keep the mind sharp.
You will see from my resume below that I have strong experience in math, science, engineering and computers. It is worth mentioning that I am also skilled in english (5 on my AP World Lit exam) and art (voted most artistic in my senior high school class). Students must be challenged, not coddled. Students at all levels need to be pushed to find their limits and then move beyond them. Only then can they achieve real growth. We must use education as a tool to educate the next generation not only for employment but also for citizenship. In so doing, we need to take into account historical precedents and objective reality. Our students need more than simply reading comprehension and basic math skills. One of the chief contributions we can make to our students is teaching critical thinking. Students must be encouraged to think for themselves and not mindlessly parrot stock answers. After reasoned analysis, they must find their own truth.

My teaching style is entirely dependent on who I'm teaching. I try to prod and ask leading questions, while also looking for how it is I can relate the subject matter to the student. I consider it a failure of mine if I am ever forced to recommend a student memorizes something that they ought to understand on a deeper level. I consider it a great success and point of pride when I find a new way to explain a concept to someone who couldn't relate to it in the same way I do.
I have earned a BS and an MS in Aerospace Engineering.
