My comments on tutoring Chess : Ive been playing chess since I was a kid.

I am a Mechanical Engineering and Geology dual major with a 3.6 GPA. I understand mathematics very well and have tutored fellow students in math and physics, successfully for years. I have a passion for learning and love when I can help others learn complex material and pass classes. I have aced College Math up through Differential Equations and Calculus 3 algebra, trigonometry and geometry are foundations of the higher mathematics and therefore I understand them extremely well. I know the basics of both electrical and mechanical engineering mathematics. For example, transient circuit analysis for electrical engineering and shear and moment diagrams for mechanical engineering. A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked and volunteered to teach or tutor students in academic and physical training. I understand both the desire to learn and the resistance to it having three of my own sons. I have taught English in China, tutored Math for middle school students, Math, Chemistry, and Physics for high school and college, and programming for college level. I have substituted for college business class in quantitative methods. I offer the student a very practical understanding of why to learn.
Teaching style depends on the subject, the type of material, and the student’s level and ability. The goal is to inspire a student to learn the study skills necessary to excel on their own. My approach is to establish a relationship with small talk and introductions. A parent must be present at all times. I will keep up with the child's work load in the respective subject and also be in contact with their teacher. But my inital style will be repetition, which I found to be most productive during my time in the military. However, I realize that there many different methods to teaching. I will offer as many tools or resources that are needed to assist the child in learning the subject matter. And I will search continually to find the best method for the child and subject that we will study.

Although I have been self employed for the last 6 years, I went back to school last year to add Science and Math for middle school to my certification. I passed the Praxis for both of those subjects spring of 2010. I was not able to get a full time teaching position this year. I went back to working for myself but would love to tutor. I have tutored for 3 years while I worked for Tryon Elementary school. I had great success with the students I worked with, in particular concerning math. I am very qualified to work in a tutoring capacity.
I believe in good classroom management and organized lesson plans. I set appropriate boundaries and expect the students to follow the rules that are set before them.
