Drawing is one of my top subjects!

I am graduating high school this year and I am the oldest of three children. My sister is in first grade and my brother is in PreK. After school we come home and work on homework and sight words. I have babysat family friends and neighbors for three years now. I completed two years of Early Childhood Education classes with a built-in VPK. In this program, we designed and taught our own lesson plans for the children in VPK. I have experience working with children ages 3-5 and teaching science, social studies and math skills. I am also certified in CPR.
I am patient and treat kids with the same respect I am given. since I am young, I believe teaching kids will be easier because I can understand any troubles they may be having and the material is fresh in my head.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a versatile background that began with two business degrees and progressed to a professional career in purchasing and sales. I discovered along the way that my true passion was teaching and I can be more effective in a tutoring one-on-one situation than a classroom setting. I am highly proficient and have tutored nearly all subjects and grade levels.
Teach a man to fish...is for life. Tutoring is the same, especially with younger children. I haven't met a student yet who is unable to learn. My job is to find the method that will best enable students to self-actualize their learning. A success is converting the child's approach and passion for learning. If I helped to change the child's mind about learning, I have literally altered the course of his/her life in a positive way.

More About This Tutor...

Apart from baseball, my second love is education. I feel that every student has the ability to grasp a subject or a certain idea. It is all a matter of finding out how that student learns. My main style of teaching is threw the Socratic method of dialogue and real world examples. However, I am very open minded, patient, out going, and I am not satisfied with doing things one-way. There are many different ways to climb a mountain but it is important to know the most productive.
After graduating from Jacksonville University with a BS in Business Administration, I joined the field of professional baseball. I have been playing professionally in the Tampa Bay Rays’ organization for the past 5 seasons. During my off-seasons, I have been working for the Sarasota School Board as a preferred substitute mostly at Sarasota Middle School. I have taught in every subject at the middle sc ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I taught public school in Florida from K-12 for the last 16 years. I taught for more than 10 years in the private school. I am still teaching part-time at a private company. My passion for teaching and the diverse subjects and levels of students that I have taught are two of my great assets that can be very useful in the tutoring profession. I teach to help my student reach his or her highest potential.
Depending on the subject I use a highly academic and focussed style of teaching. If it is communication like English, Writing and Journalism , I use a lot of teacher-generated materials. I am very flexible and would like to meet the needs of a particular student by administering some kind of a skill inventory survey to identify his or her style of learning. An inventory of his interests and skills will also be a good tool for me to assess the student's strength ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I began tutoring as a para-educator for the Tacoma school district in 1997. While I worked at two different elementary schools, I tutored children in all grades and all subjects, with a focus in reading and writing. I facilitated my own reading circle with the fourth graders, tutored the first graders in how to tell time and count money, and conducted science experiments with the third graders to name a few of my accomplishments. My life's journey has also taken me down the path of teaching English as a Second Language. I tutored Asian children 12-18 years of age with minimal understanding of the English language. I have also tutored ESL privately. While going to school to obtain my ECE degree, I had to complete a practicum. Within this learning arena, I completed three months as a preschool teacher which helped me hone my skills as a facilitator of learning. While attending the ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

The joy of teaching is finding interesting, enjoyable methods for children to learn necessary skills & knowledge. I believe all children can be successful learners when their learning style is taken into consideration. Finding ways in which a student can practice particular skills & integrate concepts into activities that are meaningful to them is the enjoyable challenge. The key to this approach is in getting to know the student, adapting the methods by which a student learns and then practices a skill set or knowledge base. I am successful when the student makes the information their own. Parents are a child's first teacher and my partner in helping a child enjoy the success and joy of learning.
As an educator my passion is helping children become successful learners. I hold both a BS and M.Ed in elementary education with specializations in curriculum & instruction along with ear ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a natural gift for teaching and I very much enjoy it. I am an upbeat person who is a natural encourager and I am a patient person. I am very methodical and organized in my teaching. I tend to come from a different angle, presenting information with a different perspective that allows for greater understanding. I love to see the "ah-ah" moments when someone understands something they had previously been unable to grasp. I find it very rewarding and exciting.

A Little Bit About Me...

It is my experience that students do better in smaller groups with more individual attention, which in turn helps me to get a better understanding of how to move forward. I've started at the phonics level in this regard, where patience and understanding is key. I like to maintain a relaxed teaching environment, though I like to keep things moving along.
In regards to experience, I'd taught in a middle school as a Reading Specialist, as a member of the Americorps national service program. During my term, I'd implemented a measurable reading workshop and organized two school-wide literacy events, recruiting over twenty local media personalities to guest read. I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and I have vast experience in document authorship, including both literary and technical compositions.
