A Little Bit About Me...

I have had an extensive career in business. I have had a number of accounting/finance positions in the business world. My most successful position was with a chain of 30 Hallmark stores. I started as the accountant and eventually became the President of the company. I have had other positions as Controller and Accountants of other businesses.
I would be able to instruct children with the basics and also explain how these basic concepts are used and why they are important in a real environment. My goal would be to get my students excited about their future and impress upon them that they can achieve anything they desire with hard work.

A Little Bit About Me...

I prefer to begin by having the student describe the current subject matter to the best of his/her abilities to determine a starting point. I have found that having the student talk through the subject matter can be useful in determining his/her strengths and level of understanding. I like to have the student work through some problems they have not been assigned from their book/notes so that they are able to practice and work through some other problems before attempting any assignments. I have also found that it is useful to go over any previous quizzes or tests related to the current subject matter as difficulties are sometimes related to previous work because with these subjects the work tends to build upon itself.

When I work with others on writing papers, I always make sure to tell them why I suggest the changes I do. Making sure that they understand why I suggest a change is important. Reinforcing those rules while also pointing to an example on their own work always helps to show the students how to improve their own writing. I believe that showing them rather than telling them is a productive strategy to teaching composition and reinforcing the etiquette involved in essay writing.
