Hi everyone! My name is Danielle Miyagishima and I've been tutoring math and science for pay for the last 2 years. I have done private tutoring for high school and college students. I have also been employed by NMSU's tutoring center. I have also served as a "BioCat" which is a biology catalyst. A biology catalyst is a type of teaching assistant that works with NMSU's biology department. My teaching style generally varies based on who I am tutoring/teaching. I generally treat my students as adults and under the assumption that they will go to college. I also tend to go a little beyond what is covered in the subject (especially in math) as a preparation for whatever course may come next (i.e. I would probably give a prealgebra student full fledged algebra work in order to prepare him/her for the next year). I am a sophomore mathematics major at the University of Texas at El Paso. I have taught a GED class for adults facilitated by the Housing Authority of the City of El Paso (HACEP) and the YWCA. I have 6 years of tutoring experience and other programs under which I tutored include the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and JROTC.

I can work with, and teach at any learning pace, and/or style. I worked as a Summer swim instructor for children ages 3-12, at the New Mexico State University Aquatic Center. Instructors had the option of focusing on one learning level, or multiple. I had the opportunity to teach not only all the different age levels, but I also worked with the children participating in the summer camp NMSU provided to for kids ages pre-k through High School. Those lessons were longer and we had the opportunity to be more flexible with the teaching methods.

No two people are alike, so my teaching style is to find out what a person's style of understanding is, and to frame my teaching around that. Some people need to hear it out loud, some need to write, some need a picture. In whichever case, I consider the material to be learned once the student can explain it back to me. I worked as a research assistant at Arizona State University until I graduated with my Bachelor's Degrees in psychology. Although I listed only 2 years of prior instruction, I have taught over 5 years of business/finance related material. On a school level basis, I personally have a child with ADHD that I tutor at home. I am especially proficient in English/Language Arts. My research and writing skills are exceptionally keen due to the number of research papers and job related inquiries I perform. My current job involves auditing of financial records, therefore I am exceptionally precise and would not object to tutoring in elementary math. I have a social work background which, in my work has always been integrated with some component of teaching, both in and out of the classroom.
