Within the scope of general biology courses I have taught sections on genetics. I also have worked in genetic research labs. In my career I have taught different levels of biology in a variety of settings to students ranging from preschoolers to adults. What started out as a college summer job teaching children at a St. Louis Zoo camp, grew into a career of being a conservation education coordinator at the Kansas City Zoo. I can usually find a way to relate the material that the student is struggling with to something else that they understand. When they can make connections to more familiar things, then they can think themselves through problems more effectively. I usually achieve this by showing them how to do a problem, doing a problem or two with them, and then having them do problems on their own, only assisting when they need it. I have always picked things up quickly, more quickly than my peers. My peers have often come to me to ask for my help in those areas. I also see how to apply what I have learned to original problems because I see connections and hold a deeper understanding of the material. As a student at Grinnell College, I was motivated to achieve at a high level. During my four years of college, I earned a BA in French and Biology.
