Experience Summary
As a student at Grinnell College, I was motivated to achieve at a high level. During my four years of college, I earned a BA in French and Biology. I also spent four months during my third year studying in France, where I lived with a host mother and attended classes at a local university. Currently, I am working toward earning my Master's Degree in Education at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. I tutored college and high school students while attending college, and I currently tutor middle school and elementary students in math, reading, and science.
Teaching Style
A variety of instructional methods must be used to engage all students in learning. In order to help a child reach his or her potential, a teacher must be willing to acknowledge that student's learning style and work toward improving the child's weaknesses while also enhancing his or her strengths. As a middle school teacher for the past two years, I have discovered that most students learn best and most profoundly when they are allowed to partipate in their own learning instead of just taking orders.
