My comments on tutoring Government : Very strong background.

Recognizing as does William Glasser that students perform and learn in school only when their “basic needs” are met, students need a structured environment to allow them to focus on learning, but the central goal of schools is to provide students with intellectual tools to understand the physical and social worlds around them. Standards must be related to the lives of students so that they can become intrinsically motivated. Standards must be packaged and encapsulated as “essential ideas” to make them meaningful and accessible. Curriculum needs to be made exciting and relevant so that intrinsically motivated student can make it their own, and rigorous and challenging so that students are motivated and empowered to learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored close to 15 young adults on subjects ranging from History to elementary grammar. I often tutor high school and college level students but I can also tutor younger students. I have patience and if I fail my task I will stay at no additional charge to make sure your son or daughter grasps the material. I can also bring along tutors in other subjects at no extra charge. I am very professional, I always show up early and bring along materials to help the student succeed.
I do interactive tutoring with hands on lessons. I can also teach large groups at one time while focusing on the individual.

Government is one of my top subjects! I worked in the City of Los Angeles for 15 years in three departments. I presented the budget to the Mayor, appeared before Council bi-weekly and presented to the Chief of Police monthly. I also have a Masters in Public Administration specializing in Finance.

I taught an undergraduate class in political science many years ago. Since then, I have trained 100's of employee's throughout my business career. I use many of the principles I learned in the West Point Leadership Program and they have proven to serve everyone very well. I have 15 years "hands on" experience in municipal government, working at the highest level.

Political Science Graduate Tutor

I am a graduate from CSU Channel Islands in Camarillo, CA obtaining my degree in Political Science in 2015. I am schooled and have passions in Politics, Government, History, and International Relations. Throughout my years of schooling particularly in these fields, i learned the best ways to study, research, write, and memorize information throughout these fields and subjects.
I relate to the student having a tutor myself when i was younger in fields that i was not necessarily strong at. I provide realistic and helpful suggestions in order to best understand the subject as well as pass the assignment or class.

More About This Tutor...

Throughout my college years I have been employed by two different after school programs for a combined amount of 6 years tutoring/teaching in public school after school programs. (Grades K-6) I also spent 2 months teaching full time 3rd and 4th grade after college prior to unfortunately being laid off due to financial losses in the school. I also tutored English in college through an Advanced English class I was placed in.
I have a passion and calling for working with children. From the time I was a child, I knew this is what I was meant to do. I believe children are the hope of our country, and that every child is capable of learning and expanding their knowledge. Knowledge is power, and if a child is given the proper encouragement and motivation they can and will succeed. I consider it an amazing privilege to be an educator and make a difference in the lives of my students.

I enjoy teaching and presenting a challenge to students. I want to share my knowledge. Teaching is my passion. I am well versed in multiple subjects including literature and ,many sciences and history.
I love to motivate and present information, that is unique. For example, what note or bill is the lowest denomination ever printed and has the portrait of George Washington on it? If you gave me the obvious answer of the one-dollar bill, than that would be the wrong answer. The correct answere is the three-cent note printed in 1862. The bill is still legal tender, although it is worth a lot more as a collector's item. I make my students think. For example, what would happen to you, if you took off your spacesuit on Mars? I'm run ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

The Socratic method of asking questions is far superior to lecturing. Each student has a unique way of acquiring knowledge, and my job is to find that uniqueness and develop it to the fullest potential. Making a study plan and breaking information down into its smallest units is a good way to encourage mastery. I also look at a failure as a positive point and a way to encourage critical thinking. Success is often gained through studying prior errors. Education is a two way street and I learn just as much from the students as they learn from me.
Trained as a classroom teacher in California, I've worked as a classroom teacher, as a roving creative arts multi-school teacher, and as a tutor. I specialize in literature, world and American history, English, research and writing, and in creating an individualized program for study skills.
